I didn’t realize He was building something until it was finished. That’s usually how it goes with Him—He works patiently, thread by thread, and somewhere in the middle of a quiet morning you look back and see the tapestry.

It started the night before, during worship in class. I’d been in function mode—you know that place. You’re still showing up, still doing the things, still present in every room that needs you. But somewhere underneath all the movement, you’ve quietly drifted from just being with Him. And He noticed.

In the middle of worship, He spoke. Gently. Firmly. He named what I hadn’t fully acknowledged: I had drifted from the seat of rest. The busyness wasn’t sin — but it had slowly become a substitute for presence. For intimacy. For the kind of time with Him where you’re not producing anything, just being with your Beloved.
I went to bed carrying that. And I thought maybe that was the moment—the nudge I needed to recalibrate. But He wasn’t done.
The next morning, I looked at the time.
4:44
And He told me to pull up photos. Years of them.

"Come up here, and I will show you what must happen after this." -Revelation 4:1
"You are my King and my God, who decrees victories for Jacob." -Psalm 44:4
So I pulled the pictures. Year after year after year. And as I sat with them—really sat with them—I could see it. The countenance change. The softening. The light that had quietly grown in my eyes across the seasons. The layers of healing that happened so gradually I had stopped calling them miracles.
He wasn’t showing me how far I had to go. He was showing me how far He had already carried me.
“I’m not failing. I just lost my footing in the middle of function mode. And He—over 24 hours, with so much patience—came and found me.”
Two moments. Two separate encounters. One clear, loving message woven through both of them: Come back. Not to do more. Not to perform better. Come back to Me. To presence. To relationship. To the seat of rest where this whole journey with joy began.
That seat of rest isn’t a passive place — it’s actually where the most Kingdom work gets done. It’s where we hear clearly, move with confidence, and carry something real rather than something manufactured. When I drift from it, everything starts to feel heavier than it needs to be. The words don’t flow the same way. The joy gets thin. I’m still going through the motions, but the Source has been quietly disconnected.
He is always the one who comes looking. That’s the nature of our Beloved. But there’s a part of this that belongs to us—the choice to seek His face, to prioritize His presence, to make space for encounter even in the middle of full and busy seasons.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
Some Questions to Sit With
1. When did you last slow down long enough to let Him show you how far you’ve come? Not how far you have to go—how far He’s already carried you.
2. Are you currently in function mode? Moving, doing, showing up—but quietly disconnected from the Source? What’s one small way you can return to the seat of rest today?
3. Is there a “4:44 moment” in your own story—a time when God showed up twice in a short window to make sure you heard something? What was He saying?
If you’re in a season where presence feels harder to access than performance, you’re not alone. He sees the effort. He honors the faithfulness. And He is still—gently, firmly, lovingly—calling you higher.
If you’re navigating a season of transition and need a safe space to process what God is saying, I’d love to walk with you.
